Operation Christmas Child

Collection Week 2011

Shoeboxes! Shoeboxes! Shoeboxes!

     11,422 of them!

WOW! In spite of the economic difficulties of the past few years, many churches, organizations, and individuals stepped up again to participate in this ministry to children and their families around the world that is called Operation Christmas Child. It was an encouraging week to see folks from churches across the upstate dropping off shoebox gifts.

There were busy times during Collection Week where we had flurries of activity as we packed shoeboxes into large cartons, and there were slow times where we could catch our breath and enjoy fellowship with the many volunteers who worked with us at Joshua’s Way during Collection Week.

The theme verse for Collection Week at Joshua’s Way was Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” God showed kindness and compas-sion to us in Jesus. Through His death on the cross, Jesus provided the way for us to be forgiven of our sin, and by the power of His resurrec-tion, He conquered death and gave assurance to all who believe in Him that He willingly gives us eternal life.

Our hope is that the children who receive these shoeboxes (and their families) will be drawn to Jesus by the kindness and compassion of God demonstrated through a shoebox gift carrying the Gospel message in the child’s own language.

Joshua’s Way has served as a Relay Center for Samaritan’s Purse for 14 years, but serving in this way has only been possible because many of you have given shoeboxes and worked with us as volunteers. We praise the Lord for the gifts of your time, energy, and resources to this ministry.

With your help 11,422 SHOEBOXES were collected this year at Joshua’s Way and shipped to the processing center in Charlotte for distri-bution to children around the globe. Samaritan’s Purse estimates that the Gospel pamphlet included with each shoebox gift will be read by 9 peo-ple among that child’s family and acquaintances.

Pray that the Lord will multiply the number of lives reached through these gifts.
